Position:                      Transportation Engineer-Construction

Location:                    Public Works Department – Transportation Division
Salary Range:             $72,176 - $98,758/annually   Anticipated Hiring Range: $72,176 - $85,467/annually
Hours/Days:               7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Monday-Friday. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs. 
Responsibilities:    Responsible for managing multiple highway construction projects, including supervising and coordinating inspection and survey staff. Ensures contract and project compliance with Federal, State, and Local requirements and permits. Lead the maintenance and development of the County’s pavement management system and the annual pavement rehabilitation program.
Requirements:            Graduation from an accredited university or college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota. Four years of highway design, heavy/highway construction or traffic engineering experience which included experience in a lead worker capacity required.
Desirable Experience beyond the minimum requirements:

  1. Previous supervisory experience.
  2. Previous experience directing and supervising staff in meeting goals and objectives.
  3. Previous experience managing the inspection of highway construction projects.
  4. Previous experience reviewing and ensuring compliance with regulatory permits and approvals.
  5. Previous experience with pavement management systems and developing an annual pavement rehabilitation program.
  6. Previous experience managing an annual bridge inspection program or performing bridge inspections.

The center conducts transportation research, education, and outreach programs focused on transportation policy and planning, infrastructure engineering, and intelligent transportation systems in partnership with national and state government agencies and private industry. The director is expected to:

  • Provide dynamic leadership, direction, and vision for the Center
  • Attract additional resources that can be leveraged against federal and state funds to advance research, education, public engagement, and technology transfer activities.
  • Maintain and strengthen productive relationships with other universities, federal agencies, state and local agencies, legislative leaders, and businesses to shape research policy and serve as a state and national transportation resource.
