Purpose

The purpose of NCITE's Professional Development Committee is to coordinate and provide professional development opportunities for NCITE members.  The Committee is divided into three branches as follows:

Professional Development

The Professional Development branch is responsible for providing timely and relevant professional development training opportunities for NCITE members.  In the past, these training opportunities have included:
  • Advanced Synchro/SimTraffic Training
  • Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) Report Preparation Training
  • Complete Streets and Bike Lane Design Training

Professional Certification

The Professional Certification portion of the committee provides resources on gaining the following professional certifications...
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • Professional Transportation Planner (PTP)
  • Traffic Signal Operations Specialist (TSOS)
  • Traffic Operations Practitioner Specialst (TOPS)

From time to time the Professional Certification Subcommittee will plan refresher courses and coordinate opportunities for taking these examinations.

For more information on these professional certification opportunities, see the Transportation Professional Certification Board (TPCB) Website.

Outreach

The Outreach brach of this committee works to educate elected officials, public agency staff, and consultants on the fundamentals of traffic engineering.  The primary function of the Outreach committee is to organize the annual one-day Traffic Engineering Symposium workshop that is held annually during February.  Revenues from this event fund the NCITE scholarship fund.

Information about upcoming and ongoing professional development opportunities is available at the Professional Development opportunities page.
